Pedigree Chart of Edward J Casey
He was called Jamesie and his last name has been spelled Mullarkey, Mallarkey and Malarkey. Jamesie and his wife, Mary Caviston, built a house on 451 Salem Road in Archbald.2 It was reported that Mary had said that when they arrived at the Port of Philadelphia the black drap and bunting was still on the buildings for Abraham Lincoln's funeral.
According to the 1870 Federal Census, James was already a citizen of the United States.3 He married Mary Caviston. James was born in 1840, at Ireland. James was employed in 1870, at as a laborer in the coal mines, Archbald, according to the 1870 census.3 James died on 8 May 1908 at Archbald, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, at age at an unknown age . He died after leaving a tavern on Pine Street, Archbald, PA. He tried to cross the Wayne Street underpass, which was under construction, and fell through.

The following article appeared in the May 9, 1908 edition of the Archbald Citizen:
DIED FROM FALL IN THE SUBWAY.

James Mularkey of the East Side Was Fatally Hurt Thursday.

James Mularkey, one of the oldest and best known residents of the East Side, died at 4 o'clock yesterday morning at his home on Salem street, as a result of a fall from the Delaware & Hudson tracks into the Wayne street subway. which he sustained about 9 o'clock Thursday night.
Mr. Mularkey was crossing the tracks when he heard an approaching south bound train. As it was dark and he could not easily discern on which track the train was coming. It is presumed he jumped to get out of the way. He fell close to the ashes sidewalk in the subway, 12 feet below.
There were people close by when he fell and they went to his assistance. Mr. Mularkey was taken to Padden's hotel, only a few yards away. Here Dr. Kelly attended him. Later in the evening he was taken home and in a few hours he was dead. Mr. Mularkey was an aged man and the shock of the fall killed him. One one of his ribs was broken.
Everyone who knew Mr. Mularkey will be sorry now he is gone. He has been a familiar figure here for the past forty years. He was a hard working good natured man who did not have an enemy and he had a pleasant word for everybody. He was born in Ireland but most of his life was spent in Archbald where he was known to everyone.
Mr. Mularkey is survived by three sons and three daughters. These are James and P. J. Mularkey and Mrs. John McAndrew, Mrs. Patrick McAndrew and Mrs. James Wright of this place and Anthony Mularkey of Scranton.
As this is written the funeral arrangements are not complete.4

Malarky

November 18, 1918

Hello, my name is Hanora Wirght Malarky. Of course most people remember me as Annie Malarky. Especially by those who stay at our bar and hotel on the corner of Salem Road and Chestnut Street. Most people will remember it as John Wright's Tavern. He was my nephew.

My loving husband, Patrick, was born on June 21, 1865, here in Archbald on Salem Road. His father was Jamsie Malarky and his mother was Mary Caviston. Many times he told me the story that his mother was pregnant with him as they were crossing the Atlantic Ocean to come to the new land. Relatives were already living here. They left his brother Michael in Ireland because he was too sickly to make the trip. When the boat arrived in Philadelphia his mother said that the black bunting and decorations were still up on the buildings for President Lincoln, who was assassinated on April 15 that year just as the Civil war was ending.

Patrick's mother died in 1877 as she gave birth to his youngest sister Mariah, who later married Patrick McAndrew.

My husband was very industrious. By the age of 15 he had worked his way up to being a mule driver in the White Oak Mines. He saved and saved enough money to build the Hotel and Tavern. He was very successful and was the first person in the town to own one of those new finagled motor cars. Oh, how he loved to drive it around town giving people a ride. He kept it in a garage behind the hotel on Chestnut Street.

On November 11, 1918, we were all celebrating the end of World War I, but there was another enemy lurking , the flu epidemic of 1918. My beloved Patrick got sick and seven days after the end of war he was dead.

I was heart broken and missed him dearly. I took over the hotel and ran it. Every body remember Annie Malarkey's place.

Well, I worked until 1928 and on December 18, 1928, I joined my husband, Patrick, here. He married Hanora Wright. Patrick was born in 1865, at Archbald, Blakely Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, Patrick was listed as five years old in the 1870 Census. He was living with his parents in Archbald, Pennsylvnia..1 Patrick died on 18 November 1918 at Archbald, Pennsylvania, at age at an unknown age .2
